PS2 To See Release of Different biohazard 4
By admin | March 31, 2010
At an investor’s meeting today, Capcom announced today
details of the PS2 version of biohazard 4, which was released for the GameCube
last January. Titled “BioHazard: The Progenitor”, the PS2 edition will be a
completely different game altogether, retaining only Leon S. Kennedy as the main
character. In fact, the PS2 game is based upon the build of biohazard 4 seen at
E3 2003, which showed Leon investigating a dark mansion and fighting off a
glowing “hookman” enemy, as well as the Cradle of the Progenitor theme. The
director is Hiroshi Shibata, who was originally set to direct biohazard 4, and
produced by Hideki Kamiya, who directed Devil May Cry, which was also originally
set to become biohazard 4.
Shibata decided to pursue a different game from the GC biohazard 4 for several
reasons. First, the development team was having trouble bringing the GC game
over to the PS2 due to hardware differences. Second, Capcom and Shinji Mikami
originally invested a considerable amount of R&D into the original drafts and do
not want them to go wasted. Capcom’s investors also feared the defect of the
company’s talents from Clover Studio, most notably Shinji Mikami and Hiroyuki
Kobayashi, who detested biohazard 4’s appearance on other systems. Third, Capcom
sees the importance of both Nintendo and Sony in the next console generation and
wishes to keep good ties with both companies.
This move officially makes the GC biohazard 4 a GameCube exclusive once again,
while the PS2 finally gets an original, true biohazard title. Capcom promises
BioHazard: The Progenitor to be equally innovative and acclaimed as January’s
biohazard 4. More details on the gameplay will be introduced at E3 2005, in Los
Angeles. Capcom also expressed interest in bringing the BioHazard Outbreak
series to the Nintendo Revolution due to the system’s wi-fi capabilities.
UPDATE: This was Game-Science’s first April Fool’s Joke. We hope you enjoyed it.
=) As of this time, biohazard 4 on the PlayStation 2 is set to be the same game
as the GC edition.
