Soul Calibur III announced for PS2

By admin | April 3, 2010

The latest issue of Famitsu reveals that Namco is developing
Soul Calibur III, for release sometime this year on the PlayStation 2. The game
features classic characters from previous games in the series, such as Heishirou
Mitsurugi and Taki, as well as fresh, new characters. The key visual for the
game is the "Soul Embrace", an image of the soul sword (reiken) splitting the
sword of evil (jaken), and the story is based upon this.

The new characters introduced are:
Zasalamel: a 180cm tall black man of unknown origin. He wears a white
hooded cape, and wields a Death Scythe called "Kafziel".
Tira: a 17 year old girl with turquoise blue short hair and a green
two-piece costume. She fights with a Ring Blade called "Eisnerdrossel".

Setsuka: a 24 year old womam, raised in Japan. Her katana is sheathed in
the arm of the parasol she carries, and its name is "Ugetsu Kageuchi".

Namco is also busy furnishing the game with a variety of game modes:
Character creation: the player can choose looks and weapons amongst other
attributes, to create a totally unique character.
Story mode: this follows the deep story of each individual character.
Lost Chronicle mode: adds a strategy element to the fighting gameplay,
perhaps similar to conquest mode in the previous game.
Soul Arena mode: battles take place as a match with various set rules.
World Competition mode: the aim of this mode is to become the strongest
fighter in the world.
Versus mode: play with friends in normal mode, or use rules from Soul
Arena mode. Leagues can also be created.
Practice mode: standard mode to practice commands and combos.
Museum mode: explore the history of the series, opening new content while
progressing in the game.

Following on from Soul Calibur II, which sold more than 4 million copies
worldwide, Soul Calibur III is currently 30% complete and is being developed by
Namco’s Project Soul team.
