Wii’s graphics on par with Xbox 360

wiie28099s-graphics-on-par-with-xbox-360A new rumour is spreading around that although Nintendo will not have HD, games will graphically look on par with Xbox 360. According to the report below, the IGN specs were not from final development kits (Reggie Fils-Aime did state that the final kits were being sent in June) and that the real final dev kits were originally given to closer third-party developers such as Square-Enix for their upcoming Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Online sequel.

We may also recall that EA Canada yesterday claimed in an IGN interview that the graphics were not a “Gamecube 1.5″ and that they were stunning. At the same time games will run in 480p, Progressive Scan 16×9 widescreen for Enhanced Definition quality.

Also according to the report, Nintendo purposely sent out “modified-Gamecube” kits to get third-party developers to shift their focus on the controller instead of the graphical capabilities which would make sense in many ways such as forcing developers to create more exclusive games in the beginning instead of the usual multi-platform ports which was done in the Gamecube era.

Does it seem possible that the “megaton” is really the graphical capabilities? Iwata at E3-2005 suggested that “when you turn on Revolution (now Wii) and see the graphics, you will saw WOW.” Regardless if it is or not, the hype for E3 just gets better every day.
