Shure’s E2g Earbuds
By admin | August 31, 2010
The E2G is the lower end of Shure’s noise isolating ear bud line. The idea here is that instead of using noise canceling technology that can cause “motion sickness” Shure chose to keep the sound from getting to the ear at all. So essentially these are nothing but standard earfuls with uncomfortable attachments to block out noise.
The second you put these ear buds in you notice that most of the outside noise is cut out completely. This is something that these ear buds do very well but it comes at a high price. In order to cancel out the noise you have to use these foam or silicon inserts. I found that the foam was the most effective. The silicon pieces can be very painful especially after extended hours of use.
Now your probably thinking to yourself “Damn!!! For one hundred dollars they better sound better then any other ear buds.” Well you will be sadly disappointed. Not only do they not sound better then 9 dollar Sony ear buds but they sound worse!. Through the course of my evaluation I noticed a huge amount of audio distortion and “fuzz”. This was terribly distracting and irritating. I had to heavily tweak the equalizer on my system to get rid of the fuzz. I was not able to get rid of it except by turning the unit off. I found that every time I tried to use the E2G I ended up putting my Sonys back in.
One thing that is important for any headset is comfort. I can tell you without a doubt that these ear buds are the most uncomfortable ear wear I have ever used. The body of the ear buds is quite large and strangely shaped. The tip of the ear bud kept poking me in the ear the whole time.
These ear buds are also probably the ugliest looking ear buds I have ever seen. You will get laughed at when you wear them. They are also very hard to put in properly. I noticed that sometimes if they weren’t inserted just right the sound was terrible.
With a price tag of 99 dollars there is no reason to purchase these. If you want something that can isolate the noise get a set of ear buds at Radio shack. They have some that do the same thing as these ear buds for less then 25 dollars. They also look and sound better. If you are one of those people that has more money then sense I still strongly urge you to waste your money elsewhere. A more efficient use of 99 dollars would be to just flush it down the toilet. In the end you would have wasted less time and your ears won’t be in pain.
