Shure’s E4G Noise isolating Headphones
By admin | August 31, 2010
After my review of the E4G noise isolating headphones I was reluctant to ever tough another one of their products. I was assured by Shure that these were alot better then the E2G. Needless to say that I do not agree.
The first thing I noticed when I opened the package was that these were noticeably smaller then the other model. I picked an ear attachment and went to work. I spent many long hours listening to different types of content so that I could give these ear buds a chance. No matter how hard I tried I just don’t like them. Everything that I hated about the E2G is back.
The sound quality is better with the E4G but only in the High-end frequencies. The High-end was very clear in recordings that didn’t have any Mid-range to them. The second I put on some of Dave Mustaine’s signature guitar riffs the Ear buds gave out. I am talking serious distortion and “fuzz” in all frequencies. For 300 dollars they should have no distortion at all! Once again I found myself going back to the 9 dollar Sony’s that beat these ear buds in almost every category by huge margins.
You will notice that due to the different size and shape that the E4G is a hell of a lot more comfortable then the E2G. They don’t poke your ear because they fit straight in instead of from the back down. After several hours of playback my ears were in about half the pain as they were with the E2G but the E4G seems to have even less bass response then the E2G. I find this absolutely unforgivable. They don’t seem to cancel out the sound quite as well as the E2G did. Most likely due to the smaller selection of ear pieces.
They also look a little better but that isn’t saying much. You will still get laughed at when you wear them but not as much. This are even more overpriced then the E2G. Who would pay 299 for crappy ear buds when for less then half the price you could have a studio quality headset that will have a full frequency response and almost no distortion. If you want something that out performs these ear buds just try any Sony or Bose headsets or ear buds. Yes the Bose can be quite pricey but with the Bose sets you get what you pay for. This is the biggest draw back of these ear buds is the insanely high price tag.
