Metal Gear Solid 4
By admin | September 3, 2010
Metal Gear games have always pushed the limits of the game industry. The perfect mixture of storyline, gameplay and graphics that the games had on both PSX and PS2 was simply amazing. Hopefully, history will repeat itself with Metal Gear Solid 4.
Quite a few things have changed since MGS3. Hideo Kojima, the Metal Gear series creator, now has his own development studio called Kojima Productions. One of the company’s first projects is Metal Gear Solid 4. Kojima is in charge of game design, production, and direction (along with additional director Shuyo Murata, who his known for his work on Zone of the Enders: the 2nd Runner), while Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi will be producing the title and Yoji Shinkawa will be handling character design.
While MGS1 and 2 gameplay focused on infiltrating man-made structures, and MGS3 was concentrated on the jungle environment, MGS4 promises to bring a new type of gameplay. The exact type of gameplay to be seen has not been unveiled. The game’s theme is “no place to hide”, which gives us a very vague hint as to what the gameplay will be like in MGS4.
The game’s main character will be Solid Snake. Some early character sketches have been released, which give us hints as to which characters from previous games will be making a re-appearance in Metal Gear Solid 4. Characters that can clearly be seen in these sketches include Vamp, Meryl Silverburg, Raiden, Revolver Ocelot, Otacon, and of course Solid Snake. The two characters seen in the far right on the sketch below are still unknown.

The five-minute MGS4 trailer that Konami played during E3 gave away very few details on the game. It was comedic and entertaining, but purposefully, not informative at all. In fact, the trailer was made on PS2 hardware, so we didn’t even get to see what the game will look like on PS3. Clearly, it is still too early in the design stage of MGS4 to get a lot of useful information on the game. Check back often- this preview will be updated when Konami sends us new information.
